Mohawk Pinning 2018
Event Information
Description
Pinning will take place before graduation at 1030am, it is not mandatory but a great event for you and your family to attend.
What is the significance of the Pinning Ceremony?
Pinning is a tradition in the nursing profession. In today’s day and age a nursing pin is
worn to identify the school from which the nurse graduated, as well as identify the
completion of required education. Pins are traditionally presented to the newly graduated
nurses by the faculty at a Pinning Ceremony as a symbolic welcome into the profession.
The pin originates from Florence Nightingale’s influence, who pushed for the recognition
of nurses’ training programs. Originally the Nightingale School of Nursing designed and
awarded a badge with a Maltese Cross to the nurses as they completed their program.
Can I still get my pin if I don’t come to the pinning ceremony?
Yes, pins will be available to graduates for pick up at their respective site’s administration
office.
