Keynote Speaker – Maia Szalavitz
Award-Winning Neuroscience Author, Journalist & Mental Health Advocate Maia Szalavitz is the author, most recently, of Undoing Drugs: The Untold Story of Harm Reduction and the Future of Addiction, which is the first book on the history of harm reduction. Her previous book, Unbroken Brain: A Revolutionary New Way of Understanding Addiction, was a New York Times bestseller and received the media award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. An earlier book, Help at Any Cost: How the Troubled Teen Industry Cons Parents and Hurts Kids, was the first to expose the damage caused by the “tough love” business that dominates youth treatment and helped spur Congressional hearings on the matter. She has also authored or co-authored five other books, including the classic on child trauma, The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog, with Bruce. D. Perry, MD, PhD. In addition, she has written essays and features for numerous publications from High Times to the New York Times.

Donald MacPherson is an acclaimed human rights advocate, author, and a tireless advocate for evidence and public health based drug policies. He is the founder and executive director of the Canadian Drug Policy Coalition.

Session – Advocate Media Training with Kevin Hollett
Kevin Hollett (he/him/his) is a communications professional whose work has focused on public health and social justice. His experience includes working with international organizations and community-level non-profits, where he has developed campaign, advocacy, and media strategies. Currently, he's an associate director at the BC Centre on Substance Use, where he oversees the organization's communications and stakeholder engagement work. Previously he was the director of communications for Pivot Legal Society, a non-profit organization that uses the law to address the root causes of poverty and social exclusion. Prior to that he managed communications and media relations for the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. He has a background in journalism and was editor-in-chief of Megaphone, an award-winning Vancouver-based street paper that covers issues related to poverty and homelessness.

Keynote Speaker – Travis Lupick
Travis Lupick is an author and award-winning journalist who has written for the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, and Los Angeles Times, among others. He is the author of Light Up the Night: America’s Overdose Crisis and the Drug Users Fighting for Survival (the New Press, 2022), and Fighting for Space: How a Group of Drug Users Transformed One City’s Struggle with Addiction(Arsenal Pulp Press, 2018). Lupick previously spent 10 years as a staff reporter for the Georgia Straight newspaper in Vancouver. He has also worked as a journalist in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Malawi, Nepal, Bhutan, Peru, and Honduras. Follow him on Twitter: @tlupick.

Moms Stop The Harm members are invited to attend the annual general meeting portion of our conference, immediately following Travis Lupick’s presentation.
During the meeting, we will elect your 2022 Board Candidates, and review our 2021 financial statements and our strategic plan. We have updated our bylaws, ready for approval during the meeting, to finally include the option of creating local chapters and we are announcing the MSTH Advisory Committee in an effort to work toward diversity, inclusion and equity.
To allow all interested members to attend that AGM, there will be no registration fee for the AGM.

Includes all sessions Saturday, continental breakfast and lunch on Saturday, Moms Stop the Harm t-shirt, and swag bag.
Sunday Only Registration - $50
Includes Sunday sessions including AGM, Moms Stop the Harm t-shirt, brunch and swag bag.
Virtual Conference - $50
Access to all speaker sessions on Saturday and Sunday, including AGM. Recordings provided post event.
AGM Only - Free
The AGM Only ticket is for entry only into our members to attend our AGM meeting from 10:30 - 12:00 pm on Sunday, June 5 in-person or online via Zoom. Does not include shirts, meals or swag bag.
