Many early intervention professionals provide parent coaching to families. In parent coaching, it is critical that the therapist develops a collaborative relationship with parents. A Motivational Interviewing approach can be used by professionals to achieve a successful parent-coach collaborative partnership with parents.

In this one hour live webinar, hosted by Early Start Canada and Change Talk Associates, you will learn about Motivational Interviewing, how it works, and some beginning skills and strategies that you can apply in your work with families.

Mary McKenna, M.Sc., BCBA

Mary, owner of Early Start Canada, is a Speech-Language Pathologist, Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, and Certified ESDM therapist, parent coach and trainer. She has been providing early intervention services and training in British Columbia for over 30 years.

Cristine Urquhart, MSW, RSW

Cristine, Co-Founder of Change Talk Associates, offers training and coaching across Canada in Motivational Interviewing for helping professionals who support engagement and change with individuals and families. Cristine is a member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (Bulgaria, 2007) and a contributor to numerous MI resources and practice guides, including a chapter in the second edition of Motivational Interviewing in Social Work Practice (2021).

What technical equipment do I need?

To participate in the webinar, learners will need: access to Wi-Fi/internet and a computer with a camera and microphone. A Zoom invitation link will be sent by email prior to the webinar.

The Zoom application can be downloaded to the computer desktop or accessed via web browsers. If it is necessary to use a mobile device (phone), you can download the app for your phone. For more information on Zoom requirements, please see the Zoom Help Center on the official site.

What's the refund policy?

If it is necessary to cancel your registration, please email a written notice to info@changetalk.ca at least 3 business days before the session begins to be eligible for a refund. No refund will be made for cancellations received later than 3 business days before the course begins. Exceptions will be considered in extreme circumstances, such as illness.

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, Change Talk Associates may be forced to cancel the webinar. If this occurs, a full refund is processed and sent to you automatically.

Will the webinar be recorded?

Yes, the session will be recorded for future learning opportunities. If you have privacy concerns, ensure your video is turned off so that you are not visible to the group. You may also change your zoom name so that your identity is protected.
