Event description
A two-day workshop providing advanced instruction in motivational interviewing for health and social services professionals and students.

About this Event

This is a skills-based workshop that will be delivered live online. A live online workshop mimics a similar experience to an in-person workshop, and includes the use of small group work, and paired skills training in motivational interviewing. The difference between delivering this workshop online vs. in-person is that individuals from multiple geographic regions can join conveniently from their own home. This reduces the need to pay for accommodations and other travel related expenses, and can be an economical alternative to an in-person workshop.

Workshop materials will be made available to participants electronically, and certificates will be mailed to individual participants immediately following the workshop. Workshop attendance will be limited to ensure the best possible learning experience for all.

This skills-based workshop will provide:

  • A review of motivational interviewing spirit and OARS
  • Practice and evaluation of motivational interviewing skills
  • Individually-focused skill development and practice in paired scenarios
  • Practice in listening for, and facilitating discussion about change
  • Motivational interviewing applied to complex cases
  • Examples will be drawn from a range of practice areas including substance use, housing and homelessness, hoarding, and health promotion (i.e. healthy eating, disease management, and exercise participation)
  • Practice and feedback in using the strategies learned in the workshop

This advanced-level course is best suited to health professionals and social service professionals and students who support individuals who are experiencing difficulty during the process of making changes in their lives, or who may be contemplating change. A Motivational Interviewing Level II certificate will be provided on completion of this workshop.

Who is this workshop suitable for?

This course is suited to individuals working in the health or social service sectors, and students enrolled in health care or social services related programs.

*To register for this workshop, you must have previously completed a two-day introductory workshop in motivational interviewing (or longer in duration)
