Description

Course Description
This course will explore current concepts in movement and exercise science, with a focus on improving movement efficiency and building resilience. Starting with relevant physiology and principles governing human movement, this seminar will explore basic postural control, the interconnectedness of various organ systems, and their influence on the production of efficient movement strategies. The workshop will then build on these concepts and work towards improving and reinforcing fundamental movement patterns. Attendees will go home with deeper understanding of human movement, increased observational acuity, and a larger toolbox to implement with patients and clients the following day.

Course Outcomes
1. Review physiology of relevant organ systems and their role in the production of and influence on movement (ex. neuroendocrine, cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal, etc)
2. Revisit anatomy as it relates function and interdependence
3. Examine principles governing efficient movement strategies
4. Observe movement quality to identify patterns and stereotypes
5. Reverse-engineer movement inefficiencies and rebuild competency
6. Discuss relevant contraindications for at risk populations
