About this Event

This two-part workshop will support members of ethno-cultural communities in better understanding the history and culture of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Participants will learn about life before contact with European settlers, life after contact and the history and consequences of colonization. Similarities in the experiences of Indigenous Peoples and members of ethno-cultural communities with marginalization and racism will be explored.

In the 2nd workshop, participants will explore how they and their organizations can move forward in networking with and working with Indigenous Peoples.

The workshops will be led by Sue Deranger who is a member of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation. Sue has fought her whole life to protect Mother Earth and advance human rights. She is an educator and an organizer who has a wealth of experience in direct action advocacy and working to affect change.
