Event description

Description

The Music Graduate Students' Association (MGSA) at the University of Toronto invites you to join us for an exciting and unique new event! This Multidisciplinary Creative Conference will create a new environment tailored to non-traditional research formats; research that takes the form of art itself. The hope is to create the opportunity for artists and/or creative academics to demonstrate what they are working on and to open up a dialogue with a diverse group of people. Ultimately we hope to promote the kind of collaboration and experimentation that could lead to significant professional development and artistic innovation!

Music – Sound Art – Dance – Visual Arts – Theatre Film – Creative Writing – Multimedia Arts

This is an opportunity to pursue imagination and curiosity!

The conference will feature composer and sound artist Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri in a keynote performance/presentation. Papalexandri-Alexandri is an assistant professor at Cornell University and her work focuses on the borderlines of sound art, musical composition, visual art, instrument building and performance. For more information about Dr. Papalexandri-Alexandri see her website at www.marianthi.net. Papalexandri-Alexandri will use her sound artwork/performance Untitled II, solo for sound sculptural instrument, as a point of departure to address, through a combination of lecture, performance and open discussion, how materials become part of and shape artistic practices, and how this makes us rethink the very notion of the musical instrument. A performance of Untitled II can be seen at https://vimeo.com/57334299.
