This will be an introductory class lead with foragers Laura Gilmour and Luke Eckstein. Laura and Luke will walk participants through learning how to identify mushrooms and steps to harvest them safely from the wild. We will explore the diverse woods of the around the Wolf Den Nature Retreat looking for edible, medicinal and identify poisonous species and introduce the many families of mushrooms. We will also introduce participants to mushroom log cultivation for those interested in growing their own Shiitakes and Oyster mushrooms at home. Participants will leave with an appreciation and understanding of fungis role in nature, a good foundation in the steps to forage wild fungi, know the best identification resources for Central Ontario and know the steps to grow their own mushrooms at home.
