Event description
Music in the Barns returns to their roots at Artscape Wychwood Barns for the release of their debut album.

About this event

Music in the Barns will celebrate their triumphant return to live performance at the place where it all began -- Artscape Wychwood Barns in Toronto on June 2nd.

The happening weaves together elements of the collective’s past, present and future with a multi-sensory feast offering enchantment and unity through music and art.

Join Music in the Barns for a celebration of their album release plus the ensemble's newest commission for string quartet, electric guitar and percussion. Attendees will be the first to experience Music in the Barns' newest initiative, a digital violin controller and video game, generously supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.

The one-night-only event will delight your eyes, tastebuds, and of course, your ears with exciting collaborations including a gallery event with visual artist John Coburn.

VIP tickets include:

Champagne intermission reception with the artists, one copy of the album & invitation-only May 31st VIP.

About May 31st :

As a prelude to the June 2nd event, Music in the Barns will host an invitation-only VIP at the Artscape Wychwood Barns Community Gallery on Tuesday, May 31st from 6-9pm for the opening of visual artist John Coburn’s exhibition (on view May 31-June 3) featuring drawings & paintings celebrating classical music, Toronto & New York, curated by Anna Sophia Vukovich. The Mixer will showcase guest June 2 performer, Dan Lippel, guitarist and founder of New Focus Recordings, both performing and a brief talk with artistic director Carol Gimbel about the process of releasing the album. A selection of albums from his label, including Music in the Barns’ debut, will be available.

About the Album:

"...a disc to die for" -- Wholenote Magazine

Music in the Barns debut album released on New Focus Recordings (NYC) features chamber works by Canadian composers Rose Bolton, Scott Godin and Michael Oesterle. Showcasing repertoire the ensemble has championed over the past ten years, the album includes two world premiere recordings highlighted by delicate textures that blend indie and classical music to reveal a new perspective on today's voice in classical music.

Featured on the recording is Rose Bolton's "The Coming of Sobs", which was nominated for a JUNO award in 2020.

For everyone's safety, capacity will be limited and the MainSpace (Barn 2) garage doors will be open to provide maximum air flow. All food and beverage will be hosted in The Stop's outdoor garden.
