Join Autism Ontario for Musical Improv with Ottawa-based Jazz band Rakestar Arkestra!!!
This hands-on interactive workshop involving: Drums, Percussion, Xylophone and Organ, is designed specifically for kids with ASD aged 8-12. Freedom of expression will be encouraged, as well as attention to group listening. Dancing will not be discouraged!!
Rakestar Arkestra is an 8-piece jazz band that has played at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival, the Guelph Jazz Festival, and the Featherston Autism Unit. Rory Magill, Rakestar's organizer and xylophonist, has led drumming workshops for children and youth with Autism at the Lotus Centre, the Featherston Autism Unit, the TAMIR Foundation, the SNAP Program, and with private students. Erin Parkes, director of the Lotus Centre for Special Music Education, will provide extra support and engagement with the participants.
This event is open to children with ASD ages 8-12 and their caregivers only. Thank you for understanding.
