Event description

Description

By observing and exploring existing educational systems and then reflecting on their experiences, educators can affirm their practices, adapt those aspects that fit their communities and at times 'shake things up'. Join Andrea
Welz as she shares stories of how visits to nature-based early childhood programs in several European countries have shaped her thinking about a nature-based approach, both in practical and philosophical ways. She will also
invite participants to explore how Wild Pedagogy might be integrated into early years programs.

Andrea Welz:

Andrea Welz, as an educator and parent, has felt that connections with nature were an important part of human development and a way to foster an ecological consciousness. This has consequently led to her exploration of nature-based early years programs through Forest School and Nature Kindergarten training (UK), Wild Pedagogy colloquiums, completion of a thesis and self-designed study tours. Andrea is part of the Sault College Early Childhood Education faculty team and draws from her experience as an early childhood educator in licensed childcare and a Kindergarten and Primary level teacher. This year she will be on a professional development leave to engage in activities to broaden her understanding about how to nurture connections with nature in early childhood.

If anyone is interested in a tour of Discovery Children's Centre before the workshop begins please RSVP to TheDirt@disocverycc.com. The tour will start at 6:00 if there are any interested.
