Target market identification, by definition, is the method used to sort through potential clients who would benefit from the value offered by your company’s product or service using income, demographic, and lifestyle characteristics.

This method is managed in several ways depending on the products and/or services that are the main focus of business but the target market identification always begins with identifying the problem your customers have that your product or service will solve. Without this problem and solution dynamic between your company and customers, there is no market need for them to engage you.

In this introductory session, we’ll show you how to identify the people most likely to be your first customers and how to target them. It is important to identify these initial customers early on in your business planning process to test your business ideas and get feedback from them to allow you to better hone your product ultimately giving it a better chance of success.



What is the MVT Series?

The MVT Series or Market Validation Training Series is an educational course offered by Kamloops Innovation as the precursor to our VAP program. This series is Free and open to any individual, company or student who is looking to start their own business.

The series is designed to guide and coach early-stage companies through defining business models for sustained growth. Kamloops Innovation does not take equity stakes in companies, making companies free to grow on their own terms. For those individuals looking to attend specific classes, the Startup Basics Series offers more bite-sized versions of the material taught in the MVT Series through the TRU Generator.

  • Value Propositions: Understand the value your business idea brings to the table
  • Target Markets: Identify your first customers & how to market to them
  • Your Go-To-Market Plan: Develop an action plan to move your business idea forward

  • Business Model Canvas: Visualize your company's value, infrastructure, customers, and finances.
