Event description

Description

Arts Etobicoke, in partnership with the artist collective the Department of Public Memory, invite you to create a “Memory Archive” for Etobicoke. Over the course of a three-part workshop series, participants will learn the art of memory collection and remix historical materials related to Etobicoke’s past. For this Myseum Intersections Festival project, we ask the public: What are the hidden narratives in this part of the city? Which histories need to be revisited? And how can we create new memories together?

The project opens March 7th with an information session and artist talk at The Storefront Gallery at Arts Etobicoke. The first workshop is March 9th.

Opening Reception and Artist Talk

Date: Thursday, March 7th, 2019

Time: 6-8 pm

Location: Arts Etobicoke Storefront Gallery (4893a Dundas Street West)

Date: Saturday, March 9th, 2019

Time Slot A: 11am - 1pm

Time Slot B: 2pm – 4pm

Participants will interact with the Department of Public Memory's full Memory Archive and learn the process of memory collection. Sift through artifacts and documents inspired by oral history interviews that have been created/selected to evoke further remembering on the part of the audience. The Archives do not tell stories in a linear or definitive way, but instead allow for participants to connect their own experiences to a particular story.
