Note that this Public Lecture will be webcast LIVE in High Definition! If you prefer to watch the event from the comfort of your home, please click the link below (opens new window): <Click Here for Simulcast HD Video> (uses Silverlight plugin)
The Event is SOLD OUT ! However a certain number of no-shows always occur so if you are on the wait list and you'd rather see it live than webcast (see above), come early as seats that become available will be dispensed on a first-come first served basis. Remaining guests will view lecture in the Science Theatre, where Prof. Murayama will go to take questions after finishing the Q&A in the OmniMax theatre.
These kinds of fundamental questions about the Universe used to only be concerns for philosophy, but are now coming into the realm of quantitative science. Much has been learned, and many mysteries remain.
Join Science World and TRIUMF in welcoming distinguished theoretical physicist Dr. Hitoshi Murayama as he discusses enduring mysteries at the frontiers of science in the context of current and forthcoming experiments. Dr. Murayama will outline what we know and (mostly) don’t know about anti-matter, neutrinos, and (the still-elusive) dark matter, and will explain how these enigmas fit into our understanding of the universe. The lecture will be followed by an audience Q&A session.
Dr. Hitoshi Murayama is the Director of the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IPMU) at the University of Tokyo. A theoretical physicist specializing in neutrinos, dark matter and supersymmetry, Dr. Murayama received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from University of Tokyo in 1991, and is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley and a researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He is an entertaining and much sought-after speaker with a passion for explaining the wonders of modern physics to public audiences.
Tickets are free, but registration is required.
Overflow seating with a live video feed will be available in the Science Theatre. The speaker will go to the Theatre for a second Q&A session.
