About this event

National AccessAbility Week (NAAW), from May 29 to June 4, 2022, is celebrated annually to acknowledge the contributions of Canadians with disabilities and raise awareness of the need for accessibility and inclusion for all.

As part of NAAW, the Integrated Infrastructure Services Diversity and Inclusion Committee is hosting a panel discussion. Linnie Tse, Amandeep Saggu, Christopher Gordon and Rob Wyatt will share their lived experience and speak to the barriers they face when accessing infrastructure in the city.

Personal Perspectives on Accessible Design

Tuesday, May 31, 2022

12 p.m. - 1 p.m.

  • Linnie Tse works with the Government of Alberta as the Barrier-Free Administrator and is the liaison between the Barrier-Free Sub-Council of the Safety Codes Council and Municipal Affairs. “Accessibility is the great equalizer!”, Linnie.
  • Amandeep Saggu is a Deaf mother of 2 Deaf children who enjoys sports and also love the arts, theatre, and dance. “Accessibility needs to be seamless, where Deaf people don’t have to jump through hoops in order to access the same things as hearing people.”, Amandeep.
  • Christopher Gordon - Christopher is the Program Lead for Community Engagement for southern Alberta at the CNIB, an author and speaker. “Everything I’ve achieved since October 2005 hasn’t been in spite of my sight loss, but because of it. I’m on this planet for fun.”, Christopher
  • Rob Wyatt - Rob is a Project Manager for QM Environmental and is a father of two who uses many city-owned facilities, from the rinks, pools to the golf courses and parks throughout the year. “MS affects everyone differently, and most of the time it isn't apparent to the eye.”, Rob.
