About this Event

NAIT Alumni Lifelong Learning | Cybersecurity, Encryption, and Cryptocurrency

Over the past 30 years, the internet has grown from a research tool used mostly by universities to the primary source of information and entertainment for most people. With this growth has come new opportunities as well as new threats.

Join Joe Friesenhan as we discuss encryption and cybersecurity using real-world examples. We'll be finding out how exploits big and small have been used to disrupt work and steal money, and what you can do to protect yourself. We'll also spend some time learning about cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, how they work, and what risks come with their use.

Free parking is available. Room location and parking passes will be sent prior to the event.

Joe Friesenhan

IT Consultant, CST '98

Joe Friesenhan has been working in software development for over 20 years, and has been designing and implementing security systems for public and private sector businesses for a large part of that time. He currently works for a local software firm out of St. Albert that services clients from across Canada and the US.

When he's not working at his computer, Joe spends (far too much) time playing video games by himself and with his kids. Occasionally he stretches his legs and hits the road on his bike or plays a terrible round of golf.
