You are invited to the Commemorative Service on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. To pay tribute to the victims of the Montreal Massacre, our purpose is to remember, reflect and recommit ourselves to change.

Special Guest Speaker Jenny Wright (M.S.W., R.S.W.)
Jenny is a feminist, activist, counsellor and speaker. She has worked across Canada and in New Zealand for more than 20 years in social justice – with a specific focus on gender equality and justice. A specialist in gender based violence, she has worked with Indigenous, poor, homeless and sex working communities. Jenny speaks frequently on how the underfunding of women’s anti-violence organizations is a pervasive form of violence against women and has been called as a witness to the Federal Standing Committee on Violence Against Women. She is an expert panelist with the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability.
Jenny is a long time advocate for women’s leadership and political participation and has taught Women in Politics at Memorial University. Jenny cohosts a podcast with Dr. Amanda Bittner, The Academic and the Activist which explores current events from the perspective of an academic and an activist.
Moderator Ariel Gough
Ariel is a social entrepreneur, policy andcommunications advisor, and speaker. Ariel hashelped some of Canada’s most senior electedofficials to engage the next generation of leadersin the political process, and has also led thedevelopment of policies related to poverty reduction,early learning and child care, and youth.
What is the history of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women?
On December 6, 1989, 14 young women were tragically killed at l'Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal because of their gender. Two years later, the Canadian Government proclaimed December 6 the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women.
