In support of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the annual awareness campaign that takes place every October, the Talent Pool is proud to partner with Calgary Alternative Employment Services, Calgary Employment First Network and Champions Career Centre to bring you:
Conversations and discussions, news and updates regarding the critical Alberta Government strategy EMPLOYMENT FIRST
A panel of experts will share their insights on the following:
- How the Alberta Government is delivering on the Employment First strategy,
- How Service Providers deliver impact and ROI to businesses, and
- How Service Providers support your business goals and deliver alignment.
- Networked models: CAES and the Talent Pool social media presence, online profiles at CAES and Champions, online opportunities at Talent Pool, E-First network: evolution of services provision to meet business needs.

1. Calgary Flames - Fanattic Stores
Debbie Chadwick, Manager - After moving here from England in 2009, Debbie began working for the Calgary Flames Organization. In December of that same year, she took over as Manager of the Flames Fanattic Store in North Hill. With that, she inherited the role of mentoring a staff with a disability. She is here today to share her personal experience and how she navigated her way through that learning curve.
2. Sunterra Market
Barry Bischoff, General Manager - Sunterra operates fresh food markets in Calgary and Edmonton and Barry Bischoff has been the General Manager in Calgary for 11years. Though his management experience extends another 10 years working with top chain restaurants and sporting goods stores. Barry’s has become an expert in employee relations, training & development. Today, he supports a diverse range of employees at Sunterra and will share part of his story.
3. Village Brewery
Andrew Bullied, Head Brewmaster - After completing University, Andrew attended Management School for Brewery Operations and is now Head Brewmaster at Village. His leadership has been instrumental for creating a truly inclusive workplace. By mentoring people with disabilities to have the same participation as everyone else in the workplace, Andrew is building equal opportunity and strengthening company morale.
4. World Health
Trevor Portsmouth, General Manager - With a fitness career spanning 21 years, Trevor is an expert in all things healthy for the mind and body. He has been the General Manager for World Health for 12 years now and is a great supporter of hiring people with disabilities. World Health has employees with disabilities in their Richmond Hill location and Trevor is currently recruiting at his North Hill facility.
