Description

We use soap everyday but how is it made? Join us on Thursday, February 15th 2017 to learn all the bubbly details of traditional soap making. Discover the differences and benefits of “real” natural soap vs the commercial brands through an interactive, hands on workshop, where you will learn the techniques, the ingredients and equipment needed to make your own sudsy bars. We will give you safety info, touch on some fun science (the backbone of soap), the differences in ingredients and the methods and techniques to create your own custom bars. Participants will customize, mix and mold their own luxurious bars to take home.

YOU WILL LEARN

YOU WILL GET

  • 4-6 bars of customized hand-made vegan soap ready to cure.
  • Hands-on guidance from a professional soapmaker.
  • A hand-out with step-by step instructions and links to recommended resources.
  • Contacts with a new group of palls who are keen to swap recipes or get-together for a soap-making bee.
  • The confidence to safely handle ingredients and to perfect your own personal recipe at home.

Where: Wellington County Museum and Archives - 0536 Wellington County Rd 18, Fergus, ON N1M 2W3

Cost: $110.00 - $130.00 (includes all workshop materials and equipment, printed hand-out with step-by-step instructions, and a take-home batch of custom hand-made soap valued at approximately $45.00)

What to Bring: closed-toed shoes, long-sleeved shirt that can get dirty, apron, rubber gloves, and an emersion blender (if available, if you do not have one, do not sweat. You can borrow one)

Your Instructor: Carly Klassen

carlydeoIn 2016 Carly's passion for creating fresh, natural bath and skin-care products made with as many local ingredients as possible blossomed into The Sage Soap Company. She started selling at the Guelph Farmer's Market and you can still find her once a month as part of the Arts & Crafts Collective. Carly also runs a small marketing company with a similar name - Sage Company - that focuses on sports, the outdoors and health. Cancellation Guidelines

  • Minga will provide a 100% refund for workshops cancelled by Minga.
  • If a registrant cancels a workshop with more than 5 days notice, a 100% refund will be issued.
  • If a registrant cancels with less than 5 days notice or does not show up, no refund will be issued.
  • We are unable to provide a refund after the workshop takes place.
  • The above policies apply for pre-registered workshops. Refunds or credits will not be issued for a missed class.
