Nature and Art - Part 1

Nature is both all around us and deep within us. We are inseparable from nature - our bodies, lives and minds depend on the air we breathe and the food we eat. The earth sustains our very life force. Without the earth - without nature - what would we be?

We are honored to have Sophie and Marcus Macdonald to facilitate a series of youth art workshops at the beautiful setting of Darts Hill Garden Park. The workshops are aimed to raise awareness of nature as a creative source of inspiration. Together we will observe, explore and steward the very environment which we depend upon. The final art pieces will be installed and displayed in the annual show at Darts Hill Garden Park in May.

The first workshop (Monday, April 18) focuses on observation and rendering. Together, we will explore the marvelous diversity of life in the garden, seeking personal connection to plants, and expressing that relationship through drawing, and other interpretive/artistic methods.

The second workshop (Saturday, April 23) aims to integrate creativity within the natural environment. The park becomes our canvas, and nature's materials our paint. The group will discover the garden in a playful, immersive environment, encouraging artistic risks in a safe space.

Art installation (Sunday, May 1) both groups are invited to come back to the garden to install their artwork. exhibition opens on May 6

MARCUS MACDONALD

A contemporary artists born in Edinburgh, raised in Montreal and now residing in White Rock, B.C. While Marcus has always enjoyed physical painting, sculpting and In-Situ installation art, he is the Oldest digital art creator from Montreal. He has been creating digital art since 1979, during the advent of the very first colored photocopy machines.
