About this event

Join us at Loafers Lake October 1st for a walking tour with nature guide and founder of Toronto Aboriginal Eco Tours Alan Colley. Alan’s spirit name is Whooping Crane and he is Wolf Clan. He founded Toronto Aboriginal Eco Tours in order to teach and share with the next generations how to have a sustainable relationship with the environment.

Hands-on learning is a key feature of his teaching. He believes that, alongside traditional Indigenous teaching methods, people must gain a tactile experience in order to fully develop their relationship with nature. His goal is to bring together community so that elders, adults, youth and children can connect and make a difference. These actions are grounded in the principles of the 7 Grandfather Teachings, 13 Grandmother Moon Teachings and Medicine Wheel Teachings.

Some of the teachings include:

  • Love and respect for Mother Earth
  • Respect for all living creatures
  • Respect for both historical and modern Indigenous lifestyles
  • Importance of having a connection to the Indigenous history of the land you're on

Alan will begin the walk with a smudging ceremony and a traditional sharing circle.

With Alan's teachings, we can, together, explore this beautiful corner of Brampton and come to a better understanding of it, ourselves, and our relationship with nature.

Spaces are limited due to the nature of the walk tour. Register today to reserve your spot.
