About this Event

We would like to invite you to the second Society of Construction Law (SCL) event in the Prairies region.

This free event will be held at the Calgary Petroleum Club on October 9th at 3pm, and includes a panel discussion: " Navigating Construction Claims in Insolvency". Afterwards, we invite you to mingle with a free beverage and hors d’oeuvre at our wine reception.

The topic abstract and panel members are noted below. Please respond directly to this email if you have questions for the panel regarding this topic. Questions will also be taken from the floor during the event.

Navigating Construction Claims in Insolvency

Many construction companies are not much more than a rented office, some equipment (often registered with security agreements), the labour that performs construction activities, and the company's accounts receivable and accounts payable. Accordingly, how do others in the construction pyramid protect themselves when a company goes insolvent? Also, how should they protect themselves when negotiating contracts, and is there a better way to deal with the insolvency of a construction company whose work may be performed on works of public importance. The Society for Construction Law (North America) will be exploring these and other questions during this presentation.
