Neechie Club Hands & Stories: a book and craft circle
By Sarah Anne Tourond
Overview
Join us for a cozy evening of mindfulness, connection, handcrafts and beginning the book Soft As Bones by Chyana Marie Sage.
Neechie Club Presents: Hands and Stories
a cozy celebration of the transition into the winter season: a time for storytelling, rest and sacred making.
This is more than a bookclub: this is a realignment of wellness connected to the cycles of the land.
Traditionally as the days get shorter and the nights longer, Indigenous people have long been guided indoors to share knowledge, tell stories and craft our tools, regalia and handmade items. This book club is a reclamation of those traditions and an invitation to non-indigenous folks to connect deeper to the stories of the land, the people and our stories.
The first story we will honour is Soft as Bones by Chyana Marie Sage who will join us for a video chat to introduce herself and her story. Founder Sarah-Anne Tourond will begin the evening by grounding us into our bodies and sharing self regulation and mindfulness tools to support you through the more challenging themes of this story. As we open our discussions around this story, we will create with our hands to weave her story into our chosen creations. This is an invitation to bring your knitting, weaving, felting, sewing and beadwork projects to create in community with cozy cowdog bevvies in hand. If you are new to handcrafts header Mathew Delorme-King will be there to share his knowledge of beadwork.
