Neighbourhood Planning through Dialogue: Parks & Public Space - February
Date and time
Description
Grandview-Woodland is home to some of the most exciting and dynamic public spaces in Vancouver. From well-loved parks like Grandview, Pandora and Victoria, to an array of school yards and smaller, but equally important places to gather and recreate. There’s also the irreplaceable nature of Commercial Drive - recently voted one of the top public spaces in Canada - as well as East Hastings, its sister high-street in the neighbourhood. There’s also an array of important community facilities, lively sidewalks, public art, grand views, … and many other aspects of the public realm.
The new Grandview-Woodland Community Plan is a policy document that will set out long-term directions for the neighbourhood. It covers a range of topics - and parks and public space will be a key part of this. As part of the planning process, we’re looking for your help in crafting these directions.
There will be a workshop to discuss these issues, as well as an on-line component that will be launched in February. This event is free, but you need to register to attend. (See below for details).
Among the topics to be covered are:
- Greenspaces
- Plazas
- Streets & Greenways
- Community Facilities
- Public Realm
Approximately one week prior to the workshop, you’ll receive a package of background information that will help you to prepare for the event. Please read this material before coming to the workshop.
(NOTE: You can register for up to two spaces in the workshop – but you will need to add the name and contact details for both people when you do.)
A Few More Workshop Details:
Doors open at 12:30pm. The workshop will start at 1pm. A light lunch will be provided.
If you require childcare services for the evening, please email Beverly Chew (beverly.chew@vancouver.ca)
The workshop will start with a brief presentation on Parks and Public Space in Grandview-Woodland, as well an overview of neighbourhood planning work to date. The workshops will be structured ‘world café’ style so that participants can share their ideas on a number of topic areas.
We’ve already heard a lot of ideas about ‘what’s needed’ in the neighbourhood - so part of this workshop will be about building on this input, refining general ideas around neighbourhood arts and culture, and exploring possibilities for neighbourhood-based policy directions.
Photo Permission
As part of the planning work we’re doing, we’ll be taking photographs to document the Dialogue Cafés. These are typically shots of the room, group discussions, etc. If you would prefer not to be included in these pictures, please let us know when you arrive at the event.
