About this event

Training in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program is a three-step process including:

(1) Self-directed learning using the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation - 8th Edition, Lessons 1-4

(2) Successful completion of an online Essential Provider knowledge exam, and

(3) Attendance at a half-day classroom session for hands-on skill development, practice, and testing.

(4) This course content delivers curricula for Essentials Providers, which is appropriate for everyone involved in the care of a newborn and who may be called upon to initiate resuscitation, including positive pressure ventilation. McMaster Children’s Hospital recommends the essential course to healthcare providers not involved in deliveries.

The course tuition does not include the textbook or the online exam fee.

Our NRP instructors are a combination of nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, and midwives with substantial newborn care experience.

During our NRP courses, participants learn and work together as members of a neonatal resuscitation team.  All participants must learn and practice  the various roles of a neonatal resuscitation team.

 Course Content:

- Covers Lessons 1-4 of the 8th Edition of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program.

- Upon completion of this continuing activity, participants should be able to:

• Recognize the principles of neonatal resuscitation.

• Identify the need for resuscitation and how to provide initial steps of resuscitation

• Define the practices for preparing for resuscitation.

• State the knowledge and skills essential to provide positive-pressure ventilation during neonatal resuscitation.

Prerequisites:

(1a) MD, RM, RN, RPN, RRT, GRT, PCP, ACP, CCP, NP, PA, or IMG (or)

(1b) Student - Midwifery (Level 2/3/4) or Student-Medicine/Nursing/Respiratory/Paramedic  (currently enrolled in the final year of studies), and

(2) Completion of the 8th Edition online Essential Provider examination prior to attending the classroom session*, and

NRP Course Preparation and Online Examination Details

It is necessary to complete self-directed learning using the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation - 8th Edition Lesson 1-4 in preparation for the required online exam.

Completion of the 8th Edition NRP Essential Provider online examination is required prior to arriving for your classroom session.

E-Simulations are available as an optional part of the exam. Many previous NRP course participants have found the e-simulations to be helpful in their preparations for their classroom sessions. However, they are not mandatory. If you choose to do the e-sims, please note that you will have to complete the e-sims, multiple choice exam questions, and Provider Exam Evaluation before the system will issue your Online Exam certificate of Completion.

The course tuition does not include the textbook or the online exam fee.
