Event description

Description

It's the last Nerd Nite of the season! We know we're indoor kids but let's have some fun, fun, fun in the sun this summer. Come learn one or two more things before forgetting it all over the summer months. We'll be back in nerd school come September.

What is Nerd Nite you ask?
Well, between you and me - it's like a TED Talk but with beer. You'll learn a thing or two about something interesting but also laugh along the way.

So join us at the nerd table as we listen to two different smart-yet-funny talks. These aren't some boring lectures - it's edutainment. It's better than class cause you (probably) can't drink in class.

First speaker: Paul Stanish, PhD candidate, with "How the Light We See Affects Our Lives."Paul did his undergrad in Chemistry at Carleton and is completing a PhD in nanotechnology at University of Waterloo. His favourite colour is burgundy, which is found at 0.586, 0.3 in his favourite colour space, the CIE Colour Space. He is colourblind, so the fact that he is giving this talk is a bit ironic. He also has the best cat in the world.

Second speaker: Morgan Anderson (she/her) with "OOO! A Theory for all Things."A lot of how we think is grounded in the idea that our minds and bodies are different. That nature and culture are separate. And that animate and inanimate things are just not the same. But there’s a group of theorists who disagree. The most radical of them call their field of study: “Object-Oriented Ontology.”Learn about how a handful of philosophers rationalize the inward existence of toasters and other things in Morgan’s talk!

To cap off the night there will be a round of nerdy-themed trivia. We'll cover anything from science to geography to history to pop culture. Probably no sports though... cause... reasons.

$5/person. Tickets are available at the door or in advance through Eventbrite.

Be there & be square.
It's our last event of the season. Even though we might be indoor kids - the summer is just too busy for us to run monthly events. We'll be back in September!

Want to lead a talk? DM us. We love to talk nerdy.
