Description

Kofi Annan served as United Nations Secretary-General from 1997 to 2006. The highest-ranking person in the UN, the Secretary-General is widely regarded as a spokesperson for humanity.

The Salt Spring Forum’s upcoming guest, Michael Doyle, was Kofi Annan’s most important advisor from 2001 to 2003, holding the title of Assistant Secretary-General. Doyle joins the Forum for a wide-ranging discussion of the major issues facing the international community at this time.

From climate change to civil conflicts, refugees and peacekeeping, Doyle brings a unique combination of hands-on experience and big-picture thinking. Doyle, now a professor at Columbia Law School, is also a renowned scholar of international law and global constitutionalism.

In addition to his work with Kofi Annan, Doyle has served many important roles including Vice President of the International Peace Academy (1993-1994), Director of the Center of International Studies at Princeton (1997-2001), and Chair of the Board of the UN Democracy Fund (2006-2013).
