Event description

Description

Sometimes we find ourselves longing to catch our breath, to listen to what our bodies and souls are whispering, to lean into silence and solitude. January offers the gift of reflecting on the joys and sorrows of what has passed, while also listening for the gentle invitation of the season to come.

If this resonates, please considering joining Refugia in the Ghost River Valley as we practice our values of thoughtful dialogue, curiosity, and silence. This year, we are using the metaphor and inspiration of rivers to inspire our discussions and reflections.

"They listened silently to the water, which was not just water, but the voice of life, the voice of being, the voice of perpetual becoming." -- Herman Hesse

Please dress for the weather, as you will have the opportunity to spend part of the day outside. Lunch will be served, and is included in registration fee.

Curious about what to expect? Read a reflection from one of our 2017 participants here.

Facilitators:

Jodi Lammiman: Jodi is a lover of beauty, mystery, the night sky, and wilderness spaces. With a formal education in Sacred Literature, Leadership and Spiritual Direction, Jodi is interested in the intersections between the natural world, spirituality and the human psyche. She is a spiritual director, retreats facilitator and an avid reader.

Amy Spark: Amy is an environmental advocate and scientist curious about the intersections between ecological and mental health. Her work on ecological grief in the Ghost River Valley helped shape her understanding of loss & identity as a healthy way to interact with the natural world. She loves cycling, canning, and all things X-files.

FAQs

I have never been on a retreat before. What can I expect?

A personal retreat is an intentional withdrawal from the regular day-to-day routines and activities of life in order to immerse oneself in nature, solitude, and reflection for a period of time. There will be group reflection & activity time, and plenty of time for personal retreat and rest.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Kings Fold Centre is a rural community, approximately 35 minutes northwest of the town of Cochrane. It is on a school bus route, and is therefore ploughed regularly. Please note that if you use Kings Fold's postal code on a GPS or on Google Maps, you will be directed to the Cochrane post office. Follow these directions for a much easier time locating the site!

1. Follow Highway 1A west of Cochrane for 13 kilometres

2. Turn north (right) onto Highway 40 (Forestry Truck Road)

3. Follow Highway 40 for 22 kilometres

4. Kings Fold is approximately 5 minutes past Waiparous village (watch for a Kings Fold sign)

If you are interested in carpooling (either as a driver or passenger), please contact info@refugiaretreats.com. We will do our best to try and match you with someone but we cannot guarantee a ride.
