Event description

Description

Growing up under the shadow of the radically anti-Christian French Revolution, John Henry Newman lived to see the apostasy first articulated by the philosophes spread throughout English and European society. Since he lived to witness nearly the entirety of the nineteenth century, from 1801 to 1890, he would chart the rise and the efflorescence of this apostasy with brilliant insight. In "Newman and the Great Apostasia," Mr. Short shows how Newman's apprehension of the character of this apostasy helped him to become not only a good shepherd of his far-flung flock but a prophetic historian.
