Next Gen Men Circle talks Untangling Masculinity
Event Information
About this Event
Masculinity is a trending topic that is described in an increasing number of ways — from toxic and hegemonic to positive and healthy. With such a wide variety of ways masculinity can be described, it can be tough to know not only where to begin, but where to go afterwards!
This month, we'll dive into both the academic (like hegemonic) and more commonly used (like toxic) descriptors around masculinity, and together we'll explore their usage and meaning.
We'll also discuss what theorists have come up with to describe where folks are at in their understanding of masculinity — ideas like Gelfer's Five Stages of Masculinity and Funk's Continuum of Male Engagement. We're going to build upon our knowledge of gender equality and masculinity, and then challenge ourselves to go deeper or to think differently about what we think we already know about it.
So whether you're highly versed in gender theory, or just getting started and interested in expanding your knowledge on the subject, join us as we learn with and from each other!
We hope to see you on January 28th at 7pm Eastern Time as we attempt to untangle masculinity together!

Let's stick together.
Join Next Gen Men Circle, the digital home of the brave conversations we need to have.
Supported by our friends from the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter, Men Edmonton, and Movember — a community of folks who care about creating a better world for the next generation.
We're hosting conversations about the things that matter to us — gender equity, inclusion, mental wellness, healthy relationships, and social justice. Our focus is typically on how men and masculinity fit into the feminist movement, but folks of all genders & backgrounds are welcome to attend. Though these conversations are geared toward adults, youth have sometimes attended, just let us know at info@nextgenmen.ca if you'd like to bring a youth.
Hope to see you there!
