No Judge, No Court Room: Restorative Practices in New Zealand Youth Justice

Dr. Deckert lectures on criminological theory, prisons and punishment, and explains why behaviours are (de)criminalised. During presentations, Dr. Deckert likes to alternate between knowledge-sharing and audience discussion. Dr. Deckert has interest areas in the discources of orthodox academic criminology and news media and their interactions with Indigenous epistemologies.
Dr. Deckert will provide a brief overview of the history of Family Group Conferencing in New Zealand, explains its processes and discusses its successes and shortcomings. Dr. Deckert will discuss mechanisms behind FGC and some pitfalls in the process.
