About the Nobel Prize

Alfred Nobel willed that his entire remaining estate be endowed “to prizes to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit to mankind.” Named the Nobel Prize, annually since 1901, laureates are announced for their winning contributions in one of the prize categories, physics, medicine, chemistry, literature, economics and peace.
