Description

Non-violent Crisis Intervention

NVCI teaches the techniques and skills in recognizing, responding to and de-escalating potentially explosive situations. This session includes the updated language and practices. Early intervention is emphasized through recognition of the warning signs plus non-physical methods for preventing or managing disruptive behavior. The training also includes techniques for disengagement and holding. In this session, we will cover the decision making matrix/when to hold, level of engagement, the dynamics of physical holding, effective TEAM strategies, holds plus the COPING model for debriefing. The training benefits include knowing how to respond in a behavioural crisis at school, increasing self-confidence, therefore, reducing incidents of acting-out behavior, and the risk of injury to students and staff as well as providing a uniform team framework and language in schools. The philosophy of the program is to provide the best care, welfare, safety and security for all involved.
