Nova Scotia: MOM March Against Eating Disorders
Event Information
Description
Eating disorders are the 3rd most common chronic health condition among adolescents, and are twice as prevalent as both type II diabetes and obesity among young people. Eating disorders can impact anyone, regardless of age, gender or background and have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness.
With early intervention, treatment and support, a full recovery is possible. Unfortunately many people who are struggling with an eating disorder do not get the help they need. We want to encourage anyone who is concerned about a loved one or themselves to reach out and ask for help.
On October 27th moms, families, advocates, those struggling, recovering and recovered, professionals, and organizations dedicated to eating disorders are breaking the silence on eating disorders.
The M.O.M. March (Mothers and Others) is an event being held across Canada and the US.
In Nova Scotia we will be sharing personal stories of challenges, perseverance, recovery, and hope. Hosted by Halifax's new Member of Parlament Andy Fillmore, this event will shine a light on the hidden world of eating disorders.
