Event description

The OACCPP presents Introduction to Interpersonal Therapy with Dr. Ronald Frey and Cindy Goodman Stulberg

Interpersonal Psychotherapy IPT, is the best kept secret in mental health. IPT is an evidence based, short term (8-12 week) model of therapy, developed by Drs. Klerman and Weissman in the 1960’s to treat depression. Since then, IPT has been adapted to treat postpartum depression, eating disorders, dysthymia, and PTSD - without exposure. IPT can be provided for adolescents, adults, and older adults, individually, for families, couples and groups.

This webinar will provide an overview of IPT, theory, different components of the three phases of treatment, including “the sick role” -psychoeducational component; the interpersonal inventory; and a description of focal areas, goal setting and strategies used in the middle phases (eg. communication analysis, decision making, role play). Specific case examples will be provided, and there will be a question and answer period at the end.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Attendees will be able to articulate description of Interpersonal Psychotherapy IPT provided to a client

  2. Attendees describe criteria used to determine appropriateness of IPT for client.

  3. Attendees identify the fundamental components, tasks and goals required in the beginning, middle and termination phases of IPT
