Event description

Description

The Oceans Protection Plan (OPP) is the largest investment ever made to protect Canada’s coasts and waterways. This national strategy will help establish a world-leading marine safety system that provides economic opportunities for Canadians today, while protecting our coastlines for generations to come.

The OPP has four main priority areas: increasing our capacity to prevent and improve responses to marine incidents; preservation and restoration of marine ecosystems and habitats; strengthening partnerships with Indigenous and coastal communities: and, ensuring Canada’s marine safety system is built on a stronger evidence base, supported by science and local knowledge.

The upcoming engagement session will focus on the following OPP initiatives:

  • Enhanced Maritime Situational Awareness;

  • Collaborative Situational Awareness Portal;

  • Proactive Vessel Management;

  • Pilotage Act Review;

  • Anchorages;

  • Underwater vessel noise and whales;

  • Coastal Environmental Baseline Program and Cumulative effects of Marine Shipping;

  • Enhanced Navigation Safety Assessment Program (TERMPOL).
