Event description

Description

Muslims currently represent 3.2% percent of the total Canadian population (and 7.7% of the GTA population), and are a vibrant and growing giving community. Understanding the framework of faith-informed giving for this community is a critical step towards creating more inclusive charitable organizations that reach and engage diverse Canadians. Like social financing and diaspora remittances, faith-driven giving is a powerful tool that can be leveraged to make lasting global change. Through this practical lunch & learn session aimed primarily at non-Muslim-identified organizations, participants will review and discuss:

1. The different types of giving in the Muslim faith;
2. How Islamic giving and social finance can be powerful tools for social justice;
3. Practical ways in which your organization can more effectively engage with diverse donor communities.

Drawing on specific examples, IDRF staff will also share how faith-inspired organizations align religious values with international development priorities, to create effective programs and campaigns that engage multiple audiences while surpassing standards of excellence in humanitarian program delivery. This is an ideal learning event for fundraising, management, and communication professionals who want to better understand the (a) role of faith in aid from a community engagement perspective, and (b) how to meaningfully and respectfully connect with communities to achieve greater impact.

This is event is free to attend for all OCIC Members, and $10 for non-members. Lunch and lively discussion will be provided!
