Event description
IP is about so much more than patents! Join Josée Pharand, ventureLAB's Director of IP, for a series of interactive workshops on IP.

About this event

Starting on Wednesday, October 6th and running for four weeks, Josée Pharand, ventureLAB’s Director of IP, will host a webinar series tackling important topics in IP, designed with startups in mind. Feel free to attend one, some, or the whole series, depending on your interest in the topics!

Be sure to also follow up any of these sessions with a tailored one on one IP discussion with Josée by clicking on this link: https://calendly.com/josee-venturelab/ip-discussion

Session 1 - IP Essentials for Founders (October 6)

This webinar will tackle IP essentials that every founder should know. For example, how can you make sure that the IP generated by your employees or by contractors belongs to your company? This webinar will help you avoid common IP mistakes that could be very costly later on.

Session 2 - IP 101 (October 13)

What’s the difference between a patent, a design patent, and an industrial design? When do I get copyright protection for my software? This intro to IP will answer these questions and more, helping you identify the various types of IP you and your employees may be generating.

Session 3- Trade Secrets and Industrial Designs (October 20)

Trade secret protection can be a viable alternative to patents under the right circumstances, but there are steps you have to take to make sure your secret stays secret. Industrial designs are an often overlooked but powerful type of IP that can help protect the look of your product or its packaging. This webinar will cover trade secrets and industrial design essentials.

Session 4 - IP Strategies: Not Just for Patents (October 27)

IP strategies are about much more than patents. In this session I’ll talk about different topics that should be covered in your IP strategy, such as IP ownership, branding, and IP systems, and provide a template and questions to help you get started on an IP strategy or refine your existing IP strategy.

SESSION FACILITATOR

Josée Pharand - Director, IP Programs and Policy at ventureLAB

Josée Pharand has been working in IP for almost 20 years with almost 14 years of experience at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and over two years working on Canada’s Innovation Supercluster Initiative, where she was responsible for the program’s IP framework.

Josée is happy to chat about all things IP - strategies, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, industrial designs, open source algorithms and any other IP topics that you’re interested in. In addition to helping you craft or enhance your IP Strategy, she can help you undertake an IP audit to assess what IP you already have or might want to acquire in the future, and can help you establish IP systems to ensure that you and your employees are capturing and protecting the innovative ideas that are being generated as your company grows.
