Fall in love with theatre under the stars for less!

Written and directed by David S. Craig

Do not miss the hilarious world premiere of Lysistrata and the Temple of Gaia. Join us for an evening of theatre under the stars along the banks of the Rideau River in Ottawa’s beautiful Strathcona Park.

Inspired by the Ancient Greek classic by Aristophanes, Lysistrata and the Temple of Gaia is set in the year 2118, and climate change has made the world inhospitable.

But, for the humans of the future, it’s easy to dismiss the climate as “just the weather.” Easy, that is, until an ancient goddess named Gaia appears and threatens to destroy all humanity unless they promise to take better care of the planet. The women agree, the men refuse, and a battle of the sexes ensues. Thus unfolds the world’s first eco-sex comedy.

Parental guidance suggested for children under 12.

Travelling from out of town? Stay at Cartier Place, the Official Hotel of Odyssey Theatre. The beautiful location is within walking distance of the park!

Odyssey Theatre

Theatre like no other.

Odyssey is a professional mask and movement theatre company and not-for-profit, charitable organization in Ottawa. For over 30 years we have been delighting our audiences with imaginative, award-winning productions that tell universal stories in new, exciting, and thought-provoking ways.

We create innovative, entertaining and meaningful theatre through fairground arts including mask, clown, puppetry and physical theatre. Commedia dell’Arte, an Italian Renaissance theatre of masks, physical virtuosity, verbal play, comic inventiveness and satire that explores timeless struggles - class conflicts, power-plays, explosive generational dynamics and love’s dilemmas, has strongly influenced the company’s work.

In the summer of 1986 we launched our signature Theatre under the Stars. Since then, we have grown to include a Youth Matinee Series for children aged 5 to 12; a unique new play development program; annual training workshops for professional artists in mask, clown, puppetry, movement or culturally diverse theatre forms; youth apprenticeships that provide training, experience, and mentorship; and community workshops that build skills for students, teachers and community groups.
