Description

Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Organization’s (OHTO) 8th Annual Tourism Conference & AGM, also known as OH!Tourism Summit, will be held in Haliburton County on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Bark Lake Leadership and Conference Centre.

We are excited to be heading to camp to continue the conversation we introduced at our April 2018 Stakeholder Sessions as we share more about the pillars of building a successful destination, and OHTO’s new approach to working with industry to enhance visitor experiences. We’ll be taking a closer look at the power of referrals, the importance of connecting with individuals' specific interests in an authentic way, and offering impactful experiences that will lead visitors to share their remarkable stories and generate word of mouth marketing as we explore the theme, Rave Reviews: How Cultivating a Destination Experience Mindset Can Amplify Your Most Powerful Marketing Tool.

The conference will kick off the morning of October 29 with an engaging keynote address from David Peacock, Zac Gribble, and Andrea Gardi, members of the team at Regional Tourism Organization 4 (RTO4) – Huron, Perth Waterloo and Wellington. With the wide-spread digital disruption facing the tourism industry providing both an opportunity and a challenge for stakeholders, and the predominance and spread of word-of-mouth influence, this team has pioneered a Destination Digital Audit that analyzes the level of digital sophistication for an overall destination, and identifies both digital ‘fixes’ and opportunities. The tool supports tourism operators in gathering a clear picture of how their own digital reputation measures up – and how to improve it. During Digital Disruption: Leveraging the Visitor as a Marketer, RTO4 will explore the history of tourism marketing and management and look at current strategies to enhance the visitor experience, share destination stories and leverage the opportunities of digital disruption.

Following a hearty lunch, the afternoon will be spent networking with industry peers, exploring best practices, and building partnerships. First, delegates will have the opportunity to participate in facilitated conversations with other tourism stakeholders that have practical experience and insights in a particular topic like building a social community, telling an authentic story, and creating incredible visitor experiences. During Fireside Chats: Conversations with Colleagues on Top Tourism Topics delegates are encouraged to bring their own burning questions, participate in group discussions, and discover practical, applicable advice. Next, attendees will get to embrace their own inner wanderers and choose their own adventure by wandering the grounds of Bark Lake to try out a new skill or activity. With Experience Stations: Dream, Plan, Connect, delegates can take time to absorb conference content at their own pace; dream big, formulate plans, engage with other delegates to learn from each other and continue making connections.

In celebration of the strength and potential of Ontario’s Highlands as Ontario’s future most talked about destination, delegates will be invited to continue networking into the evening during an optional social event at the Dominion Hotel in Minden, where they can take in some live music and purchase dinner and drinks while still networking with industry peers.
