Fang Tong & Cinema: Photography Workshops
Award-winning photographer/artist Fang Tong, one of the vibrant Vancouver art scene’s rising stars, is rapidly building an international reputation for her meticulously shot and luminously cinematic work. Her stunningly surreal photography – which has seen her feature in international magazines such as Vogue and YISHU; be commissioned by the Sony Corporation as one of just twenty photographers around the world to represent their camera phone, and win first prize in the 2015 Nikon International Photography Competition – has seen Fang become an in-demand photographer who is bridging the divide between commercial and artistic success.

In March 2018, Fang will be offering a unique opportunity to join her at Vancouver Lipont Art Centre’s 5,000-square-foot gallery, for a short series of hands-on photography workshops with actors and models present. On a purpose-built movie set designed by Fang for the The Last Train to Sugartown, a feature film in pre-production with Sugartown Media, you will have the rare opportunity to learn on-set professional skills from Fang at first-hand, shoot your own photography and have a chance for exhibiting at the Lipont Art Centre.

French Wine and Cheese Reception
After the workshops on March 3rd and 17th, participants have the option to attend a wine and cheese – from various French regions – networking reception with Fang Tong, actor/producer Michel Duran, and fellow photographers. The reception is co-presented by The Frenchman Magazine, Sugartown Media and the Vancouver Lipont Art Centre.

The Sugartown Project is a multi media production based on a darkly comedic movie centred on the efforts of two struggling independent film-makers who embark on a series of inept robberies in a desperate attempt to raise funds for their movie. This is a character-driven ‘fish-out-of-water’ farce of accidental murder and female empowerment. Artist Fang Tong photographed scenes of the movie in 2017 to start establishing visuals.
