Event Details

Mentor: James Linderman

James Linderman is a full time songwriting coach and private music teacher who works with songwriters on every aspect of their song craft but focuses mostly on helping them edit their initial song concepts and rogue lines into complete works that can be taken to market. James coaches and teaches aspiring songwriters and musicians from all over the world over Skype and is an Academic Ambassador to Berklee College of Music. He is a songwriting and film composition mentor in the Slaight Music Residency at The Canada Film Centre and a regular columnist for Canadian Musician magazine, Songwriting. an online publication from the U.K and also works with the S.A.C. as a song assessor and journalist.

“The Art of the Edit” - Songwriting coaching has as many facets as songs and songwriters do themselves, but the art of the edit is a universal element of almost every session. The first songwriting coach may well have said, “bring me your weak, your weary, your parallel verse couplets that do not rhyme, your chord progressions that do not…progress, your tunes that are not in tune, and I will help you make them the stars of the open mic night and on the short list of the pitch”. Coaching is quickly becoming the secret weapon of songwriters on the rise and the art of the edit is the central feature to making the songs better in general and work better for specific pitches.

*Please note: If you sign up for a session and cannot attend you have to give 48 hours notice.  If you do not show for your session you will no longer be allowed to utilize our one-on-one mentoring sessions.

** All times are in Eastern Standard Time
