Event description

Description

Have you been struggling to get your DSLR camera off of auto mode? Did you recieve a camera as a gift recently and are having difficulty understanding the overwhelming amount of buttons and controls? Perhaps you've had a camera for a while, but feel stagnant with your creativity? Are you dissatisfied with how your photos turn out? Do you want to take your landscape and nature photography to the next level?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, my photography workshop may be right for you. This 2 hour lesson will be fully catered to your specific needs based on an email conversation before the event.

We can cover anything from the basics and fundamentals of photography, to getting a better understanding of light and composition, existing portfolio review and tips for improvement, go over some smartphone apps that will help you plan out your photography in advance of being on location, how to develop your social media footprint further, or anything else that comes to mind that you would like to learn. You will come away with a much better idea of how to plan and take landscape photos, and be able to use your camera on manual and aperture priority modes.

These private 1-on-1 workshop sessions have been set for the sunset golden hour timeframe in a relaxed, comfortable, and friendly slow paced environment. I am also flexible to work with you on a timeframe that best suits you if needed. I am also available for sunrise, or during the day. I will also be hosting some night photography workshops soon.

What Is Involved:

I will be in contact 1-2 days before the workshop to get a better understanding of what you want to learn from the workshop. Then we shall meet at a pre-determined location to start the workshop and after a quick introduction, we'll cover some of the following items (based on your needs):

  • Go over gear requirements for landscape photography
  • How to choose a composition, using foreground elements and anchors, rule of thirds
  • existing portfolio review of nature and landscape photography and tips for improvement
  • Introduction to the exposure triangle (Aperture, Shutter, ISO)
  • Discuss types of light and how to make them work for you
  • Introduction to long exposure photography and Neutral Density Filters (I will have a spare set of filters for you to test providing your lens is between 67-82mm thread size and not a bulbous style front element)
  • Using back button focus and hyperfocal distance
  • Camera preparation, cleaning and storage
  • Discussion of smartphone apps you can use to help your photography
  • Any other topics you want to cover based on our discussion a day or two before the workshop

What to Bring:

  • A DSLR camera with removeable lenses
  • A wide angle lens (preferably 24mm or wider for full frame, 16mm or wider for crop cameras)
  • A sturdy tripod
  • A remote shutter trigger would be an asset
  • Dress appropriately for the weather, good shoes or boots for short walking and possibly navigating uneven terrain
  • A signed copy of the liability waiver that will be emailed to you before the event
  • A positive mindset, eagerness to learn and have fun!
