What is IDEaS? - Innovation for Defence Excellence & Security
Presented by: Roscoe Klink, Portfolio Manager, IDEaS Program, Department of National Defence
Program information:
The Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program will launch a number of coordinated new initiatives that will transform the way the Department of National Defence (DND) generates solutions to complex problems. Through IDEaS, DND will invest $1.6 billion over the next 20 years to support:
• Creating clusters of defence innovators to conduct leading-edge research and development in areas critical to future defence needs. These clusters will bring together academics, industry and other partners to form collaborative innovation networks;
• Holding competitions that invite innovators to present viable solutions to specific defence and security challenges; and
• Implementing flexible new procurement mechanisms that allow Defence to develop and test ideas and the ability to follow through on the most promising ones with procurement.
Areas for advanced research and development will include (among many others): surveillance, cyber tools for defence, space, alternative fuels, remotely piloted systems, data analytics, and counter-improvised explosive device solutions. Another critical area for urgent research is the human dimension of our work, including treatments for mental health and operational stress injuries.
The IDEaS program will present many diverse challenges throughout the year on behalf of DND and all of its security partners (e.g. Public Safety, RCMP, Canada Border Services Agency, etc), and will be open to individuals, companies of all sizes, academia, and others to solve.
Come to meet one of the program managers, learn details about the program, hear about potential challenges, how to access the funds, and find out which stream might interest you the most!
What is ISC - Innovative Solutions Canada?
Are you an innovator or entrepreneur who would like to capitalize on the $100 million in funding available through the new Innovative Solutions Canada Program?
Innovative Solutions Canada is a new program with over $100 million dedicated to supporting the scale up and growth of Canada’s innovators and entrepreneurs by having the federal government as a first customer.
Twenty participating federal departments and agencies will set aside a portion of funding to support the creation of innovative solutions by Canadian small businesses. By funding proposed solutions, the program is supporting the development of early-stage, pre-commercial innovations. Join us to learn more!
What is BCIP? - Build in Canada Innovation Program
Presenter: Tess Menges, Supply Specialist, Build in Canada Innovation Program, PSPC
Program information:
The Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP) helps Canadian companies move their state-of-the-art goods and services from the laboratory to the marketplace. Through the BCIP, the Government of Canada buys pre-qualified goods and services. The government moves these late-stage research and development innovations to federal departments for testing. Any private company, not-for-profit organization, university or individual can submit a proposal.
To be eligible to apply to the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP), your innovative product or service must:
- be Canadian or partnered with a Canadian bidder
- own the Intellectual Property rights for the proposed innovation or have been granted a licence to the Intellectual Property
- fall within one of the priority areas
- never have been sold commercially
- meet the required technology readiness levels - include minimum 80% Canadian content
- have never before received a contract through this program for the same innovative product or service.
- cost no more than the following dollar amounts (before taxes, shipping and proposed travel and living expenses): $500,000 CAD for standard component innovations; $1,000,000 CAD for military component innovations
Join us to find out more information on how BCIP can help you move your pre-commercialized state of the art goods into the marketplace.
