One two or many: Intro to Dissociative Disorders & Non-Disordered Plurality
Event Information
About this Event
Hello!
Welcome to the Dissociative Society of Canada's first training for therapists! This course is for therapists seeking a more grounded foundation on dissociative disorders and non-disordered plurality.
Dissociative Disorders we will be covering are;
- Depersonalization
- Derealization
- Dissociative Amnesia
- Otherwise Specified Dissociative Disorder
- Dissociative Identity Disorder
We will also be covering topics that are inclusive of non-disordered systems/plurality.
This is open globally and will be presented in English and a more in-depth focus on North America. Please make a note of this if you are considering signing up. There will be one monthly seminar (max 3 hours) and ongoing mentorship from our founder and CEO, Bethany Killen.
Please note, Bethany is a DID system in Social Work. Bethany teaches and mentors from a critical social work, intersectional feminist, social justice and decolonization lens. Bethany is also a white settler in Canada; therefore, BIPOC and expert guests from the community will broaden and provide a more thorough insight into our community's realities.
Please note: there are no CEUs for this course.
Each month will be covering a subcategory of the broader subject of disordered dissociation and non-disordered plurality.

How to support a singlet or system in care, or support a singlet or system that lost custody. How to navigate school as a singlet or system, including accommodations. How to make your school therapy room trauma-informed and safe for systems and singlets)
October: Consent. (many singlets or systems are survivors of CSA, and many still experience a lot of the grooming that happens in CSA; you will learn how to help break that grooming or make your client aware. This will be a hefty month)
November: substance Use and Harm Reduction. (people use substances for a variety of reasons, and not always due to addiction. Navigating those barriers around safe supply [if available in your area], becoming informed about different types of kits available for injections, smoking, etc. Navigating the illegality around substances and creating informed consensual practices in your clients' substance use.)
December: wrap up.
