Event description
Cultivate Self-Compassion through discussion, mindful practice & creative expression. Share the benefits with your clients.

About this event

ONEBird is an 8-week online training designed for art therapists, art therapy and expressive arts students, counselors and other professionals seeking the empirically proven benefits of self-compassion - reduced anxiety, enhanced wellbeing, the ability to respond with self-kindness to both the inner critic and the challenges of work, relationships and everyday life. ONEBird uses a unique combination of creativity, mindfulness, and compassionate practices. While the primary focus is on cultivating personal self-compassion, we will also explore how the practices and creative activities can be applied to your professional work with clients. Research identifies self-compassion as the mechanism of change in various therapies and links higher levels of self-compassion to greater psychological wellbeing across diverse challenges & populations. In addition to building inner resources, self-compassion also enhances resilience, which acts as a buffer against professional burnout and empathy fatigue.

I received my Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) training from Kristen Neff, Chris Germer and colleagues. ONEBird incorporates principles and practices from the empirically supported MSC program, as well as other contemporary mindfulness teachers, therapists and neuroscientists. The heart of the ONEBird model is anchored in art therapy - in the powerful, transformative alchemy of creative self-expression.

In addition to meditation, short talks, experiential exercises, group discussion, and home practices, ONEBird is designed to consolidate learning - moving knowledge from the head (cognition) into the heart (compassion) using the powerfully integrative human capacity for creativity!

OBJECTIVES:

After completing the training you should be able to:

  • motivate yourself with encouragement rather than self-criticism
  • integrate mindfulness and self-compassion into your daily life
  • teach basic self-compassion practices to clients
  • respond skillfully to work stress with mindful awareness & equanimity
  • relate to difficult emotions with greater acceptance, moment by moment
  • respond to feelings of failure or inadequacy with self-kindness
  • begin to transform difficult relationships
  • practice savouring and self-appreciation

I am committed to creating a safe, collaborative atmosphere where you will connect with other professionals who understand both the personal and professional implications and benefits of self-compassion. ONEBird will be offered using the Zoom platform. Through informative discussion, creative activities, self-compassion practices and mindfulness-based exercises you will discover what works for you...and for your clients!

Please join me for this NEW online offering.

Please purchase this book: "The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook: A Proven Way to Accept Yourself, Build Inner Strength, and Thrive," by Kristen Neff & Christopher Germer (co-creators of the Mindful Self-Compassion program). It is available on Amazon and at bookstores. A supply list will be made available following registration.

Participant feedback:

"The art is a powerful vehicle into the soul. How to care for myself and recognize how little I do this and my deep propensity to care deeply for others. That it is not a selfish act but one that can help my tank of compassion from running on empty."

"Loved creating art. I never have the time or energy to do so. Loved the new people I met - so many kindred spirits. Loved the teacher - a compassionate & gentle soul."
