Event description
Composer Jonathan Dove on life, passion, music, and the impact of his breakthrough opera, Flight; and a sharing of refugee stories today.

About this Event

Composer Jonathan Dove, who is visiting Victoria for the Canadian première of his opera Flight, will talk about his life, his passions, and his music, including the impact of his breakthrough opera. Flight was inspired by the story of Mehran Karimi Nasseri, a refugee who lived for 18 years in Terminal 1 of the Charles de Gaulle airport.

Joining us is Sabine Lehr, Private Sponsorship of Refugees Manager at the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria and associate faculty member in the School of Leadership Studies at Royal Roads University. Lehr is a member of the Executive of the Canadian Council for Refugees and a member of the Council of the Sponsorship Agreement Holders Association of Canada.

Her research focuses on immigration and refugee issues, and she will share stories of the work the ICA engages in to sponsor refugee families, offering a current, global picture of the character that is the basis for the opera Fight.
