Event description

Description

Get your tickets early! The Canada Organic Trade Association (COTA) welcomes you to Canada’s capital once again for an opportunity to learn what’s going on in Canada’s organic sector, network with your fellow industry members and make change on Parliament Hill. Early bird pricing ends on Friday, October 18th at midnight!

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION: SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH, 11:59 EST

With the election occuring in October, we felt it was important to work on an agenda for this year's Organic Summit that is non-partisan and of importance to whichever political party becomes the next government. Canada is commited to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; a plan of action based on 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are becoming increasingly important in determining the sustainability agenda of the planet.

In a combined forum of presentations, roundtable discussions and regulatory forums, the theme throughout this year's conference will delve into "Organic is part of the Solution". COTA has partnered with the Dutch organic specialist Eosta to delve further into the new report Organic Agriculture and the Sustainable Development Goals. At the conference, we will delve into examples of how our food systems can have a direct impact on our chances of achieving these goals. The report is based upon more than 50 scientific publications, the meta-analysis concludes that organic agriculture can play an important role in achieving at least eight of the 17 SDGs. These include: Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Good Health and Wellbeing (SDG 3), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Climate Action (SDG 13), Life Below Water (SDG 14) and Life on Land (SDG 15). To learn in detail how organic agriculture scores better than its conventional counterpart on saving biodiversity, our water and health and brings resilience to farming, register now for this year's Organic Summit! Several representatives from Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Agriculture Canada have confirmed attendance for robust roundtable discussions with our sector.
