Orientation 2019 will welcome 3,000 new students to the University of Saskatchewan and we need your help. Please volunteer today!
*Please do not sign up for multiple roles that occur at the same time!*
Students who spend at least 4 hours volunteering will receive credit to their Co-Curricular Record.
Registration and Setup Assistants (8 – 12 pm)
You will be helping students check-in and register at their colleges. Once registration is done, you will assist with the clean-up and take-down of check-in and registration stations. You will also provide any additional help as needed setting up the Campus Expo. Volunteers will be expected to assist with the movement and placement of tables, chairs, materials, and with various other duties as assigned. For this activity, you must be able to lift 12 kg (25 lbs).
College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies volunteers will guide students to their next event following Registration (and will be asked to stay until 12pm).
Arts and Science Ushers (8:00am - 12:00 pm)
You will be helping to students to find the correct registration table line ups and/or the correct room they are meant to report to after checking in. Ushers will also help to lead the students to their next activity. Volunteers must be comfortable engaging with and leading groups of people.
Food Volunteers (11 am - 1 pm)
You will be helping set up for lunch, as well as helping distribute happiness (PIZZA)! It is important to be able to work with a team and in a fast-paced environment. Some clean-up will also be tasked to food volunteers.
Campus Expo Attendants (12 - 3:30 pm)
You will be assisting the various Campus Expo exhibitors, directing students to the Campus Expo and engaging students to visit the various exhibitors. We are looking for energetic volunteers who can encourage new students to learn about the various supports and services available to them, highlighted through the Campus Expo. Volunteers must be willing to approach and engage students!
Campus Tour Leaders (12:30 - 3 pm)
We are looking for volunteers to lead groups of new students around campus and to help students become familiar with the university. You will be leading a ‘Find My Class’ portion for the tour, which will show students where common and hard-to-find classes are located. You will also be leading a ‘Student Services’ portion for the tour, which will help students identify the support services available to them across campus. Volunteers must be comfortable with leading groups of people, walking for extensive periods, and with public speaking in both small and large groups. We are looking for volunteers who are energetic, outgoing, very familiar with campus, and willing to approach and engage students! NOTE: Volunteer Training Sessions are MANDATORY for Campus Tour Leaders!
Take Down Assistants (3 - 5 pm)
You will be helping with the take-down and clean-up of various stations around the Bowl and Bowl area. Volunteers will be expected to assist with the movement and placement of tables, chairs, and materials, and with various other duties as assigned. Must be able to lift 12kg (25 lbs).
As Needed (8 am - 12:30 pm; 12:30-5 pm)
We are looking for volunteers who are willing to offer their support as needed throughout the day to the various units taking part in Orientation 2019! For this role you must be available to offer your support to an array of activities. We can always use more volunteers, and appreciate your willingness to help us throughout the day as needed!
