Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator Training

The Dyslexia Champions of Manitoba Inc. and the Faculty of Education, University of Manitoba are hosting an 5-day summer course taught by Ms. Corey Zylstra, of REACH Learning Centre, North Vancouver, B.C.

ORTON-GILLINGHAM CLASSROOM EDUCATOR TRAINING - This accredited course is designed for educators to learn how to implement the OG approach in a classroom or small group setting.
Using the Orton-Gillingham approach and rationale for teaching, join our certified OG Trainers to learn how to implement the OG approach in a classroom or small group setting such a Learning Assistance/ Resource centre. This course will investigate OG classroom procedures for providing structured, sequential, multisensory language and phonics instruction in a classroom setting, including procedures for RTI implementation and progress monitoring. Provide instruction in reading and spelling that allows your students to be “Detectives” of the language and learn the code for mastering phonology, orthography, and syllabication. Strategies for penmanship/ letter formations, sight word teaching, alphabet sequencing, sound/symbol relationships, spelling rules, and syllables will be examined and practiced. Specific strategies for explicit reading and spelling instruction will be examined and practiced. This is a 60 hour course.
Prerequisite: Open to practicing teachers, speech pathologists and others with education degrees AND completion of Foundations of OG/MSLE. To view the details of this course, including registration particulars click here.
